Work in Process:
Terra Firma Sustainable Art Project

Crafting Global Unity Through Art

The Terra Firma project is a journey of transforming natural materials into a powerful symbol of global unity and sustainability. Each stage of this process reflects a commitment to both tradition and innovation.

Sourcing Materials

The project begins with the careful selection of materials from around the world. Sand from the Netherlands, provided by Paul Jager, forms the foundation. Clay from Sofia, Bulgaria, sourced with the assistance of Elena Dragostinova, Director of the National Museum "Boris Christof," adds depth and texture. Heirloom corn leaves from Tlaxcala, Mexico, contributed by Cornelio Hernández Rojas, are naturally dyed with indigo, bringing an organic vibrancy to the project.

Creating the Mudbrick Cube

These diverse materials are meticulously combined, using time-honored techniques, to form the Terra Firma mudbrick. The cube represents the fusion of cultures and resources, symbolizing the strength found in unity. This process highlights the importance of sustainable practices and the global collaboration that brings the project to life.

A Living Project

Terra Firma is more than just the final product; it’s an ongoing exploration of art’s potential to foster sustainability and global connection. Every step of the process is a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring relevance of ancient building methods.

Follow the evolution of Terra Firma as it continues to shape a vision of a more sustainable, united world.
